As you might imagine, the Oscars in LA is HOT SHIT.

Vanity Fair hosts an annual Oscar week blow-out, this year named V.F. Social Club and hosted at WeWork Hollywood. This has been the highlight of my year so far (sorry Dutch boyfriend who visted for 2 weeks)! And it all happened because of my AWESOME & talented friend – ANNE COCO!

You see, Anne Coco works for the “Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences” – you know, the guys in charge of the Oscars. Anne is the Graphic Arts Librarian for the Academy and her job includes overseeing the Library’s two-dimensional works on paper. Hello….costume fashion illustrations!!

V.F. Social Club invited Anne to speak at their fancy event – because she is interesting, an expert in her field and can put on a good presentation. And this…is how I was “invited” to spend a week frolicking in a “social suite for hand selected influencers.” Ha!

Just like her, Ms. Coco’s presentation was AWESOME. She took us through a costume fashion illustration archive you can only dream of seeing. What really struck me was the distinct, unique styles the different illustrators had. The range was really wide, and some I was not fond of. But, you won’t get to peek at the ones I found kinda ugly, because this is my blog & I’m only putting pretty things on it.

Another part of the presentation I really loved was seeing the “before & after.” The illustration that captured the vision for the costumes and then the final execution on the film set. The ever-so iconic Marlene Dietrich in her famous menswear suit, and Kim Novak in her famous suit – dove grey – designed by Edith Head for the Hitchcock thriller Vertigo. Look at this! Isn’t it great?

A half hour later, my little mind was exploding from sensory overload. And there was a lot more fun stuff to be done at the good old V.F. Social Club. While the highlight I came for was over, I still had a week of other fun events, freebies and social media posting to attend to.

And I’d like to give a big shout out to all the awesome things I got to enjoy & experience over at WeWork Hollywood during Oscar’s week:

The Bosco’s photo video booth. Vittoria Coffee serving up lattes with foam hearts. Grey Goose happy hour. Clarisonic offering up free pedicures. Loreal mimosas, brunch & manicures. Serious snack kitchen with fresh juices, Chobani yogurt, appetizers a plenty. And the Vanity Fair “powered by Twitter” vending machine that was stocked with TOO MUCH GREAT STUFF. (Tweet the right combo of hashtags & you’re walking home with Armani lipstick, Clarisonic face wash, Lancome mascara & face serums, Loreal lipsticks & potions, Taschen books & postcard sets, T-Shirts, cute reusable totes, iPad cases). THANK YOU ALL!
